To outline SLSSA position on the use of methoxyflurane in SLS operations within South Australia.
Methoxyflurane is commonly supplied under the brand name Penthrox and is sometimes colloquially referred to as the “green whistle”.
Some lifesaving services interstate are authorised to administer methoxyflurane for pain management, for example isolated locations where paramedic assistance can be some time away.
Methoxyflurane is not used by SLSSA due to SA Health requirements.
